Here are some of the other concepts we came up with when working on the ambivalence book cover. We were pretty happy with how they all came out but are glad they went with the cover they did.
Hey! We finally got our shirts up in our store. Want to buy one? Link!

You know your cool points are flying out the window when you get overly excited about buying a dustbuster, but i’m ok with that. We got a sweet Dyson Root 6 the other day, peep the design on this badboy. Only thing is by the looks of it i’m not sure if I should be picking up dust or killing cylons with it.

This weekend we went to the Trinity Bellwood’s Garage Sale which is a huge garage sale held in Trinity Bellwood’s park here in Toronto. I had some luck finding cool sourcebooks there in the past but struck out this year only picking up a couple of The American Legion mags. Our two magazines hardly sated our thirst for spending money on books so we rode over to check out Monkey’s Paw a used book store we’d been meaning to visit for the last 6 months. Picked up a couple of gems. Signs + Emblems by Erhardt D. Stiebner and Dieter Urban which is easily the best trademark & logotype reference book i’ve ever seen. We also picked An Atlas of Typeforms which had a ton of cool reprints in it. If you live in Toronto or are visiting please support this store, they have a ton of great stuff. You could spend a day just drooling over all their books.

Yesterday I designed the first shirt for a bicycle club i’m a member of. The Toronto Freedom Haters are making their first official appearance at the Becel Ride for Heart charity event this weekend. Our group (minus me, because of my broken hand) is riding 50k on sunday to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. If you are interested in sponsoring us please click this link and donate some scrilla for a good cause.

I wish How To Be a Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul by Adrian Shaughnessy had been published while I was in college because it would have been that much more helpful. That being said I think any designer regardless or age or experience would dig this book. Check ‘er out.

We designed some new merch for Cancer Bat’s Canadian east coast tour and I got to check it out up close and personal on Saturday when they played Toronto. You can check out the designs in our portfolio here and here. Cancer Bats are touring the US in february so check ‘em out when they come to your town!

I finished reading The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand last week for the first time and really enjoyed it. I’d encourage anyone who does design or creative work of any field to read it if you haven’t.

Our friend Jamie Campbell is having an opening for his series Beasts of Burden this Friday, January 19, from 6pm to 9pm at the Harbourfront Centre (235 Queens Quay West). There are excerpts from Beasts of Burden on his web site along with his other work. Worth checking out.
